

Richard J. Blunden, 94, of Norwich passed away peacefully on March 8, 2024 at Chenango Memorial Hospital. He was born on February 18, 1930 in DeWitt, NY to the late James and Edna (Greene) Blunden. He graduated from DeWitt High School and General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. Richard served his country honorably during the Korean War from 1950-1953.
In 1954, he married Antoinette Scafidi and they enjoyed 26 years together until her passing in 1980. He then married Jean Brancato on October 13, 1982 and she survives him. Dick is also survived by his children, Susan (Joe) Rizzo, Cindy (Chuck) Davenport, Barbara (David) DeGennaro, and James (Stacey) Blunden; his grandchildren, Steven Rizzo and Randi Searles, and April DeGennaro; three great-grandchildren; as well as his niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Blunden; and his grandsons, Brian Rizzo, and William DeGennaro.
Dick worked for Mid York Press for 34 years, retiring in 1991 as Director of Estimating and Purchasing. His lifelong passion was restoring and showing antique and classic vehicles. He was a member of The Rolling Antiquers Old Car Club (RAOCC) for over 54 years and served as treasurer for a number of years. He always enjoyed spending time engaged in “car talk” with his many friends from the club.
Calling hours for Dick will take place on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Paul’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dick’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at www.stjude.org or to The American Heart Association at www.heart.org
