Nancy was born September 29, 1933 in Earlville, the daughter of Charles and Vernice (Cox) Holmes. Growing up in the Earlville area, she graduated from Earlville High School in 1951.
After her graduation from high school, Nancy lived in Sherburne for 3 years before moving to Norwich. During her years in Sherburne, she worked for Technical Appliance Corporation (TACO). After relocating to Norwich, she established herself as a self-employed babysitter and child-care provider for nearly 30 years, helping many families in the Norwich area.
On April 28, 1954, she was united in marriage with Fred J. Walker in Sherburne. He predeceased her on March 8, 1982.
In her down-time, Nancy enjoyed the solitude found in taking walks and mowing the lawn. Her family owned a summer home on Plymouth Reservoir, where she enjoyed cooking out and watching the fireworks on July 4th. As a hobby, she collected miniature spoons and salt & pepper shakers from all over the world, and her sons, who were in the military, would often send her new additions for her collection.
Nancy was a warm, kind person with a great sense of humor. She was loved by many, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Nancy is survived by her children, Steven Walker of New Berlin, Gary (Anita) Walker of Utica, Kevin (Terri) Walker of Virginia Beach, Fred “Joe” Walker of Virginia Beach, and Laurie (Eddie) Elsworth of Norwich; her former daughter-in-law, Lynne Hendrickson; her grandchildren, Jessica Correia, Tony (Stephanie) Walker, Angela Walker, Scott Walker, Danielle (Tim) Harrell, Mathew Walker, Rianne Hawkins, and Adrianne Simmons; her step-grandchildren, Bethany (Glenn) Sherman, Josh (Emily) Fisher, Ray (Stacy) Elsworth, and Leslie (Morgan) Elsworth; and her sister-in-law, Catherine McNitt; as well as 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Fred, she was predeceased by her son, Michael Walker; and her brother, Charles Holmes.
Nancy’s family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff of Chase Memorial Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care she received in the last chapter of her life here on earth.
