Mildred E. McKie

Millie was born on February 25, 1928, in Mineola, NY to Gunnar and Elviria Nelson. Millie grew up in Guilford, NY. On June 18, 1949, in Guilford, Millie married Albert W. McKie and from 1964 they made their home in South New Berlin, NY.

Millie was a skilled seamstress, had a green thumb and loved working in her flower garden, enjoyed playing the piano and teaching Sunday School. Millie taught chapel at Valley Heights Christian Academy for many years, she volunteered in medical records at Chenango Memorial Hospital and she often played piano at a local nursing home. Millie knitted hats to donate to the Ronald McDonald house.

Millie is pre-deceased by her husband, Albert W. McKie; her son, Nicholas J. McKie; and her brother, Floyd Nelson. Millie is survived by her children Barbara Threet, of Plainfield, MA, Karen (Don) Foley, of Norwich, NY, and Clara (John) Sharp of Lincolnton, NC; her grandchildren, Meg Baker, Serena Torey, Annie Brodsky, Heidi Wilde, Holly Thomas, Jonathan Sharp, Mike McKie and Michelle McKie; 21 great-grandchildren; as well as her nephew, Jim (Kathy) Nelson; and her niece, Susan (Dave) Gunnels.

A private funeral service will be held for Millie at a later date. Private committal services will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Guilford.

Millie’s family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Ronald McDonald House in Syracuse, NY.
