Melanie (Deiss) Krucher, 68, passed away on Saturday January 13, 2024 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her children when she was reunited with her dear family and friends who have passed before her.
Melanie was born September 26, 1955, to Bette (LaRock) Deiss in Norwich, NY and spent her childhood in Norwich and surrounding areas with her sister. She graduated from Norwich High School in 1973 and married Thomas Krucher a year later on May 18, 1974. Melanie ran her own daycare business out of her home for 25 years before transitioning to retail at Cars & Credit and Walmart.
Melanie had a special place in her heart for all her daycare children and took great pride in seeing them grow up and raise families of their own. If you knew Melanie, you knew that her Walmart family meant the world to her. Her dream was to return to work as she missed everyone dearly, however life had other plans. She talked daily about her co-workers and the memories that she created with them.
When Melanie wasn’t working, you could find her dressed in her Cowboys jersey yelling at the TV along side her friend Lisa. She loved to sit on the couch with her long time friend Joanie and reminisce. Ice tea was her absolute favorite and she was known to make jugs of it to take on family vacations and made friends with the employees of Dunkin. Her love of music was palpable and she instilled that love into all that surrounded her. She was “married” to Tim McGraw (if you know you know) and loved herself some Prince. You could often find her singing and shaking her shoulders to the music with a big smile on her face. Lastly, she loved heading to Red Lobster with her friend Donna for tasty seafood.
Her grandkids were her world and she loved to talk about their accomplishments to whomever would listen. Often you would find her at games cheering them all on and helping them navigate the journey of life.
Melanie was preceded in death by her mother Bette; her mother and father in law, Tom and Cecil; her brothers, Terry, and Jim; her and ex-husband, Tom; her puppy Sophie Grace; and her kitty, Tigger man. Melanie is survived, lovingly remembered and missed by her brothers, Skip (Sandy) Deiss, and Doug (Kathy) Deiss; her sister, Robin (Billy) Gross; her daughter, Kelly (Kristine) Krucher, Breanne (Ed) Heath, and Melissa Krucher, her grandchildren, Halea, Drew, Kenzie, Brey, James, and Evan; her nieces, Bette Jo, and Trisha; her nephew, Josh; and many other nieces and nephews.
In honoring Melanie’s wishes there will not be formal services, but the family will have a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her memory can be made to Sock out Cancer (sockoutcancer.org) or Chenango County Hospice and Palliative Care (hospicechenango.org)
