Mary Alice Whitney

Mary Alice Whitney, the last child and only daughter of Stokes and Agnes Shepardson, passed December 12, 2018 with family by her side. Mary Alice was born in Smyrna, NY at the Shepardson Farm on April 20, 1926. She married Robert E. Whitney on November 15, 1945 at her parent's farm and resided next door for the remainder of her life, raising five children: Sue Hellmann (David), Ardelle Suozzo (Stephen), Pamela Wordell (Ralph), Norma Coats (Jack), and Jack Whitney (Kelly). Mary Alice was a loving and proud Grandmother to eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, and her daughter, Pamela and her five older brothers (twins Stanton and Stanley, Francis, Richard, and Carl). Mary Alice worked in retail for several years at Balch's in Sherburne and Hallmark in Norwich. She enjoyed sewing, baking, walking, playing badminton, feeding the birds, and especially being with her family and friends. In her later years she was grateful for fun outings with her nieces JoAnn and Patti and their mother, Betty and time spent with her dear neighbors' Donnie and Sharon Boise and their family. Mary Alice's playful, loving, and joyful nature will be missed. The family is planning a memorial service in the spring. Donations in her memory can be made to the Smyrna Rescue Squad 1 E.
