John H Rice

John H. Rice, 75, of Pharsalia, passed away on March 10, 2023. He was born in Cortland to the late Carl and Irene Rice. He was also predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Wanda; his brothers, Carl Rice, and Eric Rice; and his step-sister, Sharlene Rice Woodard. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia; his children, John H. and Marie Rice II, and Candace L. and Brian Walsh; his grandchildren, Brian Walsh II, Daryn Rice, Justin Rice, Nicole Oxsheer, Albert Rall, and Christopher Rall; four great-grandchildren; his brother, William and Tina Rice; his sisters, Penny Cribbs, and Brenda West; as well as several brothers and sisters in law.

John served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1975. He lived in Germany and Texas and settled in New Jersey for 35 years. He made his living as a warehouse supervisor for Rickels Lumber and also worked in building maintenance for Freehold Township School District. Upon retirement, John and Patricia moved to East Pharsalia. John was a lover of all things outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and finding projects for his tractor. He will be remembered as a good husband, father, a helpful neighbor and was especially supportive of military veterans.

A funeral service for John will take place at 4:00pm on Friday, March 17, at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. Norwich with his good friend, Chris Tuberion officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00pm until the time of service. Burial with military honors will take place in the spring at Wayside Rest Cemetery in Pharsalia.
