She and her college sweetheart, James, married after his return from WWII, and they moved to Maryland where she attended Peabody Conservatory. As a violinist, Jean played with many orchestras and chamber groups throughout the years, the most notable perhaps being the Washington Bach Consort (Dr. J. Reilly Lewis, Founding Director), with which she travelled to Leipzig, Germany on tour.
She joined the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC in 1963 and immediately became involved in the music program, singing in the Chancel Choir, serving as Minister of Music Ken Lowenberg’s volunteer assistant, doing such things as being Choir librarian, directing the children’s choirs, playing the violin, translating numerous libretti, contracting personnel for orchestras, performing as concert mistress for all programs that involved any orchestra accompaniment, typing Concert Series programs, and proofreading program notes and such. She and Jim also hosted many Chancel Choir parties in their gracious home. In 1979, she and Lowenberg jointly commissioned and purchased a Robert Brooke harpsichord and donated it to the church. She served as an Elder, and was extremely involved as a volunteer in T.A.P. (Transitions Assistant Program), which helps recently released detainees relocate into society. She remained involved in church activities until she moved to NY in 2008.
Jean was predeceased by her husband, James, and a daughter, Erica. She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor, and her husband, Frank Gaccione, and a niece, Ola Seifert.
A memorial service will be held at Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. where Jean will be inurned in the Columbarium. This service will be following by a gathering in Geneva Hall at CCPC. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be given to a recognized charitable organization or to the Chevy Chase Presbyterian Church.
