James Edward Lamphere Jr.

Jimmy was born on January 20th, 1956 in New Berlin, NY. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda (Lockwood); his daughter Tammy (Randy) Brown; his sons James III and Jason; the grandson and two granddaughters that he and Linda raised – Justin (Lydia) Lamphere and Kristina & Madison Lamphere; his brother Clifton (Kathy) Ketchum, Jr.; as well as grandchildren Jamie, Kathleen, Jennifer, Laura, Linda, Carolyn, Monica, Ian, James IV, and great grandkids Emma, Sylar, Tobias, Spencer, Ailee, Madeline, Gunner, Aidan, Lily, Conner, Maverick, Della, and Noah. He is also survived by many aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and his friends Jerry Griffin, John Fowlston, and Larry Slater.

Jim was an avid card player and often played pitch at the local Legions and other tournaments. Jimmy was also a great outdoorsman, with an overpowering love of hunting, fishing, and camping, which he shared and passed on to his family. A pastime he always enjoyed was garage saling on the weekends with his wife Linda.

Jim was a 1973 graduate of Norwich High School. Jim retired from the Norwich Shoe Co. when they closed in 1990, then went on to get his CDL. Jim also worked for the Overhead Door Co. in Cortland, NY.

Jimmy was known as the rock of his family and always organized the family gatherings and get-togethers, which he lived for. Jimmy will be remembered by his pitch playing and crosswords. Also, he was a wealth of knowledge, and was often able to give advice or “how to” on many subject matters. He also loved Nascar, the old Nascar #3, old time TV shows, and mowing his lawn.

Jimmy was predeceased by his father James Lamphere, Sr. and his mother Patricia (Davis) Ketchum, his sister Barbara Lamphere, his brother Robert Ketchum, his grandparents Stanley & Hazel Davis, and friends of many years Marty and Blanche Melon.

A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at a later date.
