George Harold Lewis 81 of Norwich, NY died at his home on Monday, June 12th, 2023. George was born on June 23, 1941, in Clifford Township, PA. He was the son of Harold and Gladys Cole Lewis. George grew up in the McDonough/Cincinnatus area, graduating from Cincinnatus Central School in 1961. His classmates always talk about him walking on his hands. He enjoyed soccer, wrestling and running. After graduation he joined the US Navy, serving state side. Upon returning home he worked in different types of construction. After marrying Marjorie Beth Lewis February 27th, 1965, they bought a farm in Norwich where they farmed for many years and had a small backhoe business. George worked with his cousin Theron Lewis in a blacktop/driveway business. George and Marjorie built their family home in 1973. In 1974 they bought Interstate Battery of Susquehanna Valley. Together with their children they ran their family battery business for over 25 years.
George was a believer of The Lord Jesus Christ. He was active in turning the South Plymouth feed mill into the Old Mill Christian Life Fellowship Church in the early 1990’s. George was an active member of The Gideon’s International Chenango Camp for approximately 50 years. George loved to do Gideon Distributions and handing out God’s Word wherever he went.
George is survived by his wife Marjorie Gibson Lewis, 3 sons: David L. Lewis (Debbie), Richard J. Lewis, Anthony J. Lewis (Grace), and daughter, Valerie S. Gray (Scott). He had 10 grandchildren; Michael, Jillian, Julianna, Makaio, Zander, Caden, Nicolas, Malea, Jace and Caleb; 2 great grandchildren, Adilee and Elijah. George is survived by 3 remaining siblings Donald Lewis, Charlotte Smith, and Dawn Horrocks. He was predeceased by his Mother Gladys, Father Harold and Sisters; Rachel Wilson, Elizabeth (Betty) Bronson, Esther Pate, Wonda Miller and brother Daniel Lewis.
A funeral service for George will be held on Monday, June 19, 2023 at 11:00 am from the Old Mill Christian Life Fellowship Church, South Plymouth with burial to follow in the Sylvan Lawn Cemetery of Greene. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Sunday, June 18, from 3-6 pm and again on Monday from 10-11 am at the Old Mill Christian Fellowship Church.
