Doris L. Burlingame, 88, of Norwich passed away on Friday, April 12 at Norwich Rehabilitation Center. Doris was born in German, NY on November 5, 1930 to the late Howard and Julia Smith. In addition to her parents, Doris was also predeceased by her son, Gerald Burlingame; her brothers, Gordon Smith, and Lorne Smith; and her sister, Pauline Dunn. Survivors include her husband of 71 years, LeRoy Burlingame, Sr.; her children, LeRoy and Virginia Burlingame, Jr., Larry and Nancy Burlingame, and Candace Ostrom; her grandchildren, Brenda and Joseph Hatch, Leroy C. and Cassandra Burlingame, III, Travis M. Burlingame and Ashleigh Banks, Amanda Ostrom, and Jason Burlingame; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Doris worked for Norwich Pharmaceuticals and later, when it became Proctor and Gamble, holding many positions there and retired after 27 years of service. In addition to her work, Doris liked to sew, play cards, shopping, collecting knick-knacks and cooking. She was known as an excellent cook and taught one of her granddaughters her secrets to making a meal. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the center of Doris’ life. She always had time for them, loved their company, and she will be deeply missed by them. A graveside service for Doris will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday April 18, at North Norwich Cemetery with Rev. Jeremy Stopford officiating.
