Don was born in Norwich on July 26, 1952 the son of Edward J. and Agnes F. (Nightengale) Granger. He attended the Norwich and Oxford schools from which he graduated. He began his working career in 1970 working with the FBY Construction. In 1971 Don became employed with Victory Markets as a truck driver until they closed in 1995. In 1998 he went to work for Black Horse Carriers Trucking until 2003 and then became employed with Lock – N – Logs until his retirement in 2017. Following his retirement he continued working even harder.
Don was a longtime member of the McDonough Fire Dept. and over the years held many offices including several times as chief. He was a role model to many children over the years helping them to become productive adults. Don led a life putting others first while balancing his support and love for family.
On June 2, 1985 Don married Sherry Bassett who survives. He is also survived by his son William Granger of Oxford, step-daughter Jenny Graef of McDonough, sisters Gloria Middleton of Guilford, Ruby VanDuser of Cato and brother Kenneth (Sue) Granger of East Pharsalia. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Don was predeceased by his first wife Michele, step-son Daniel Boone Graef and brothers William Kraft and Edward J. (Toad) Granger Jr.
A funeral service for Don will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 11:00 am from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date in the Union Cemetery of McDonough. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Thursday from 6-8 pm.
