Delbert M. Monday, 86 of Plymouth passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 18, 2019 at Norwich Rehabilitation. He had suffered a stroke on January 27th. He was born on March 12, 1932 in Galax, VA, the son of Roby Allen and Adaline (Smith) Monday. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany from 1952-1954. Upon his discharge from the military, Delbert relocated to Plymouth, NY to work for Crane Silo alongside his brothers, Charles and Hobert. He then went to work at GLA in 1956 and continued employment there until his retirement 38 years later. On July 20, 1957 Delbert married Virginia (Ginger) Franklin. They made their home in Plymouth and were blessed with six children. Throughout his life, Delbert was a God fearing man, reading his Bible daily, praying and thanking God for the many blessings he received in his life. He enjoyed helping others, mowing their lawns, cleaning snow off cars in winter at Golden Age and Peacock Manor Apartments and taking people grocery shopping. He also enjoyed seeing his friends at Tops Market, taking long walks, sharing his death by chocolate cake and playing cards at Friday night family gatherings. In addition to his parents, Delbert was predeceased by his brothers, James, Charles, Hobert, Warren, and Ether; his sisters, Ethel Davis and Juanita Powell; his daughter, Cindy; and his twin grandchildren, Joseph and Josie Barnes. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ginger; his children, Lori and Curley Edwards, Karen and Rich Barnes, Carolyn and Terry Towndrow, Delbert (Dale) Jr. and Jennifer Monday, and Jimmy Monday; 21 grandchildren lining in Alabama, Florida, Texas, Kansas and one that’s a world traveler; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters in law, Imogene Monday, Janice Scott, Gladys and Preston Branagan, and Gretchen and Tom Gage; brothers in law, Ernest and Mary Franklin, Donald and Betty Vanderwalker; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Delbert’s life will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 9, at CV Free Church, 4299 State Highway 23, Norwich. All friends and family are encouraged to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in Delbert’s memory may be made to Seventh Day Adventist Church, 804 County Road 10A, Norwich, NY 13815.
