Anthony “Tony” N. Kemp, 79, of Norwich passed away on Thursday November 14, 2019. Tony was born in Coventry, England on November 12, 1940 to the late Douglas S. and Olga M. Kemp. He immigrated with his parents to the US in 1947 and graduated from Sidney Central School in 1959. Upon graduation, he went to work for Grand Union Markets setting up their new stores until his enlistment in the US Army in 1963. After his discharge, Tony began an apprenticeship as a tool maker at a machine shop in Sherburne. In the early 1970’s Tony and his father began their own tool and die making business which they ran successfully until the business was sold to Shop Vac in Norwich in the 1990’s. He then was employed by Shop Vac until his retirement in 2004. Tony loved car racing, often flagging at races in Watkins Glen and was a member of SCCA for many years. He enjoyed all kinds of music, spending time with his family and traveling with his camper throughout his retirement years.
Tony is survived by his wife of 21 years, Tracy Kemp; his son and daughter in law, John and Diane Kemp; his daughter, Robin Kemp; and his grandchildren, Brandon Kemp and Shelby Kemp. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Dinah Kemp.
Tony’s family will receive friends on Saturday, November 23 at R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad St. from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.
