She was born June 4, 1943, the daughter of the late Meriba E. Hubbard and Charles Henry Burke. Following the death of her father, she was raised by her step-father, Emmett Post, who had a great impact on her life; encouraging her to “spread her wings” and to be her true self. Growing up in the Gilbertsville-South New Berlin area, she graduated from the Gilbertsville Central School class of 1962.
She married David P. Christian on April 11, 1964 in South New Berlin. He predeceased her in 2003.
Ann worked for many years at Norwich Shoe Company, until 1986, when she went to work for Norwich AeroProducts. She retired in 2015, when the plant was closed.
In her leisure time, Ann and Dave bowled for many years on the Plaza Bowling Alley leagues, where she was a member of the WIBC and the 600 Club. She greatly enjoyed a game of BINGO, and, for many years, could be found at many of the local fire departments on BINGO night. She also kept an extensive collection of Santa Claus figurines, for which she was well known.
Ann dearly loved and took great pride in her children and grandchildren, always eager to discuss their achievements and carrying a wallet full of photos to show to all of her friends.
Ann is survived by her children: Teresa (Jeff) Pope of South New Berlin, Troy Christian (Diana Greenman) of Mount Upon, and Kevin (April) Christian of South New Berlin; her grandchildren: Tyler Pope, Kelsey Pope, Harlie Christian (Tyler Sloan), Hunter Christian (Shayln Thomson), Kayla Christian (Riley Briggs), and Willow Gutierrez; her great-granddaughter: Henley Annistyn Briggs; her sisters-in-law: Cindy Christian, Marylee (Ken) Meyers, both of Virginia Beach, and Kathy Burke; as well as many nieces & nephews, and her good friends and neighbors: Billie Knapp and Carol Weaver.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother: Carl Burke Sr.; her sister and brother-in-law: Laura & John Erikson; and her grandchildren: Katrena Pope, David Randall Christian, Jordan J. Christian, and Breanna Christian.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 13, 2022, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, 116 N. Broad Street, Norwich. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12 p.m., with the Rev. Kurt Funke officiating.
Burial will take place in Maplewood Cemetery, Mount Upton.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ann’s memory to the South New Berlin Free Library, c/o Robin, P.O. Box 9, South New Berlin, NY, 13843, for the benefit of the construction of their new addition, as Ann greatly enjoyed a good book.
