April 24, 1961 – December 20, 2022
NORWICH – Timothy Alyxzandar McGory, 61, of Norwich, passed away at home December 20, 2022. Born on April 24, 1961 in Staten Island to the late Laurence McGory and Ruth (Wilhelm) (McGory) Adrian, Timm and his family moved to Occum in 1965. He attended Norwich schools but began to travel in early adulthood, briefly calling California home where he further advanced his schooling. Florida began to call his name, where he relocated in 1989. Over the next 17 years, he proudly built a successful life for himself, working on cruise ships and in the restaurant business, eventually having a career in restaurant management at California Pizza Kitchen (CPK). However, in 2006, it became clear that family needed him back home, and an opportunity arose for him to return to eastern Conn. to continue his career at Foxwoods, where he worked for both CPK and later Fuddruckers, up until 2020 when he was sidelined by health issues. No matter where he lived, worked, or traveled, he left a trail of lifelong friends in his wake whom he held close to his heart, and everyone knew that heart was made of gold. In the last year of his life, he discovered genealogy and put in countless hours doing research and other necessary work on free genealogical websites—familysearch.org and findagrave.com which rely on volunteers like him.
In addition to his parents, Timm was predeceased by his daughter, Stephanie “Stevie” Vitouladitis, his older brother Lawrence, and close family friend Anthony Jon Ames.
Survivors include his brothers, Ronald of New London and Kenneth of Norwich, niece Megan McGory-Gleason and her husband Brent, his grand-nephew whom he nicknamed the “Jolly Roger” Roger Gleason, soulmate of 48 years Paula Vitouladitis, and roommate Jim Holladay.
Services and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Black Rock Arts Foundation, 660 Alabama St. San Francisco, CA 94110. Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich Ct is in charge of arrangements.
