Thomas Gerbing Connell Jr.

Connell- Thomas Gerbing Connell Jr. 89, of Uncasville died Dec. 27, 2015. He was born Oct. 4, 1926 in New London, son of the late Thomas and Rose (Malady) Gerbing Connell Sr. He is the beloved husband of Helen Saindon Connell who he married Sept. 11, 1948 in St. Joseph’s Church New London. Mr. Connell graduated from Harbor School, and Chapman Technical School. He was employed by the New London News, and retired from Pfizer after 34 years as an office manager. He was the leader of the Junior Midshipmen Uncasville unit, and the president of the Al-DA -KY Bicycle Club in St. Petersburg Fl. When he was 17 years old he joined the US Army Air Corps and served in Germany and France. Mr. Connell was a member of St. John’s Church Montville for 57 years. Besides his wife he is survived by a son Richard T. Connell of Middletown, a daughter Suzanne Connell DiCioccio and son- in- law Anthony, a granddaughter Toni Anne DiCioccio Henry and husband Jonathan, a grandson Zachary Thomas DiCioccio, a great granddaughter Alexandria Mae Henry, nieces, Debra Babeski Hartley and Wendy Babeski Poplett and many other nieces and nephews. He also leaves a sister -in-law Anna Connell of Uncasville. He was predeceased by a brother James Connell. Mr. Connell enjoyed gardening, travel, and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday Jan. 5, 2016 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Church ,Uncasville. Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
