Ronald was born September 23, 1940, to the late James and Anna Matthews Nicholson in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia. He was the fourth of nine children. He is survived by brothers Eric (Nina), Donald and sisters Georgina Young and Lynne Strang along with many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Kenneth, Joey, Butchie, Timmy and a sister Marjorie Conrad.
He came to the U.S. and for a while resided in Boston. He joined the Marine Corps in Boston and after serving in Viet Nam, his time was up and he was honorably discharged.
He eventually came to Montville and started his beverage business. He joined the American Legion Post 112 in Montville and became a very productive member, serving many years as the Post Commander where he worked well with members. Ronald was instrumental in bringing the new Post Home into existence on Pink Row.
He was an avid Red Sox fan watching most of the games on television. He also enjoyed overseeing the Post Ball team. Sports were in his blood.
He spent the last 19 years with his friend and companion Barbara McCarthy looking after each other.
A funeral service will be held at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Rte 32, Montville on Friday, November 12 at 7 pm. Calling hours will be held two hours prior from 5pm to 7pm. Burial will be private for the family.
