Born in Vandalia, Illinois on March 29, 1938. He was the son of Frankie Mae (Abnot) and Herbert M. "Lefty" Buettemeyer.
He joined the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served in Vietnam, as a SeaBee. After his active duty service, he joined the CT Army National Guard prior to returning the U.S. Naval Reserves where he completed 20 years of military service.
He worked at Electric Boat, in Groton, CT, prior to joining the civilian workforce at the Naval Submarine Base, in Groton, CT. He retired from civil service, after 20+ years, in December 2006.
His parents, brother, Richard Buettemeyer and daughter, Rebecca Buettemeyer preceded him in death.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his stepmother Eva Jane Buettemeyer, a brother James F. Kirk, a sister, Charlotte R. Sawyer, daughters Katrina Love and Tammy Lacy, sons Kenneth, Lonnie and Sammy Buettemeyer, as well as, several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
