

Born in Dalum, Denmark on April 7, 1914 to the late Harald and Emmy (Jensen) Sterregaard, Poul went on to receive his Technical Master’s Degree in Engineering and served in the Royal Danish Navy during the 1930’s and the Merchant Marines during WWII. On Aug. 25, 1945 in Washington Depot, CT he married his beloved wife of 50 years Margaret Starr Averill at the Averill Homestead. He was predeceased by his wife and son, Averill, He is survived by his daughter, Tora of Norwich and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Denmark and across the United States. Poul was General Superintendent of the Inside Machine Shop, Pattern Shop and Foundry when he retired from Electric Boat in 1979. In accordance with Poul’s wishes there is to be no memorial gathering, but more appropriately those inclined could raise a glass and offer a toast to his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations maybe made to a charity of your choosing.
