Mary was born May 16, 1937, in Norwich, CT. She was the daughter of Richard and Cynthia Cox and grew up on the family farm in Preston.
She was married to Clifford E. Allyn on June 25, 1960, at the Preston City Congregational Church, he survives her. Together they have four children. Cynthia Nader (Vic), Clifford Allyn Jr. (Lisa), Cheryl Decker (Donald), and James Allyn (Karen). She is also survived by five grandsons. Christian Allyn, Tyler Allyn, Ryan Nader, Jacob Allyn, and Kyle Nader. She was predeceased by her siblings R. Glenn Cox and Eva Gail Cox, and a grandson Jason Nader.
Mary was a 1955 graduate of Norwich Free Academy. She was a 1958 graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing where she became an RN. She worked at the Norwich State Hospital, W.W. Backus Hospital, and over thirty years at the Summitt Convalescent Home.
Mary was a member of the Preston City Congregational Church. She served as a Financial Secretary for over eighteen years, a Sunday School teacher, and on numerous committees. She served on the Town of Preston Nursing Board, the Preston Girls Recreation Committee, and was an active member of the Preston City Fair Association.
Mary was an active member of the Preston City Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was one of five Auxiliary members who dispatched the Preston Ambulance for over seventeen years and was the last living member who served during the Air France plane crash in August 1954 in Preston City.
Mary and Clifford purchased Ledyard Farms in 1978. She enjoyed the farm life and especially raising Registered Holstein calves. The family exported many Registered Holsteins throughout the world. Mary and Clifford proudly received the New England Greener Pastures Award in 1992.
She enjoyed traveling with Clifford over the years especially to Florida.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Preston City Congregational Church at 2:00pm. A burial service will follow at the Preston City Cemetery.
