Born in Cromwell on Dec. 22, 1923, he was the son of the late Amelia (Drayer) and John M. Robbins. He was married to Eunice Ethier in 1944. He is survived by his wife, Eunice, his brothers; Melvin B. Robbins and Roy W. Robbins of Cromwell, his children; John Henry Robbins Jr., of Gales Ferry, Mark N. Robbins of Stonington, Kent E. Robbins of Simsbury, five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Everett O. Robbins of Rocky Hill, his sisters; Muriel Yeager of Cromwell, Gladys Massicotte of E. Hartford, Joan Antonucci of Cromwell, and his grandson Joshua Robbins of Norwich.
John served in the US Army during the Korean War and WWII in the 97th Infantry earning many awards while serving in Patton’s army in France, Germany and Czechoslovakia. He was in the process of writing a book about his war experiences.
John was a general contractor for over 60 years and a real estate broker for many years. He loved restoring and preserving antique homes. He was a member of the Elks for 64 years, was past commander of the Norwich DAV and a member of the VFW. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on W. Town St., Norwichtown on Friday at 11am meeting directly at church. Burial with military honors will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich. Calling hours will be Thursday evening from 5pm to 7pm at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT.
