He was born on June 12, 1925 in Orange, NJ to the late P. Arthur and Isabelle (Kline) Rock. He graduated from Norwalk High School and later joined the Marines. He continued his education graduating from the University of New Hampshire and was awarded his Master’s Degree graduating from Cornell University. He had a very satisfying 35 year career as an Agricultural Extension Agent, working with poultry farmers bringing them educational information to ensure their success. He served as Professor Emeritus at UCONN in agriculture after his retirement.
James was very involved in many organizations particularly as president of the Connecticut Poultry Association, was on the Vestry Committee and Outreach Committee of St. David’s Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry, and many other passions in his life.
He is survived by his sons; James Jr., Benjamin, and David Rock, daughters; Laura Rock, Isabel Russak and Melissa Macey, several grand and great-grandchildren a nephew: Phillip A Rock Jr., and a dear friend, Anna Mae Burr. He was predeceased by his brother, Phillip Rock Sr.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 9am – 11am at the Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT with procession to St. David’s Episcopal Church in Gales Ferry for Funeral Service at 11:30am. Burial will be private on Friday at the family plot in Poughkeepsie, NY.
