Chip was born December 1, 1963 in St. Louis, MI, the son of the late Holman H. Smith Sr. and Shirley (Ritchotte) Smith.
He married Dawn Desrosiers (Mom²) on July 9, 2011. She survives him.
Chip had worked as a tractor trailer driver for UPS until his retirement at the end of December 2020. He was currently employed with Church and Allen and Labenski Funeral Homes as a funeral service assistant.
In addition to his mother Shirley and his wife Dawn, he is survived by his son Maxwell Holman Smith and wife Katie, daughter Cathleen Hall Smith, by his brothers James J. Smith and wife Debi, Russell T. Smith and wife Crystal, sisters Carol Hall Lucenta, and Diane Nevinsmith and wife Jane, by his grandson Jaxson Smith and granddaughter Alexandra Smith, by his nephew Cameron Hall Smith and niece Kaitlyn Smith.
Chip was predeceased by his father Holman H. Smith Sr. and several uncles, aunts and other important family members.
Chip was an exceptional husband, father, son, brother and friend. He would do anything for anyone at any time and had a heart of gold! Chip was fun loving and was always up for the next adventure! He always lived for the moment!
Chip was an avid skeet shooter and hunter and served as the President of the State Skeet Association and President and life member of the Ledyard Sportsman’s Club. He also served as a board member and life member of the Norwich Fish and Game. Chip was named World Skeet Champ as a member of a 5 man team in 2011. He was also a member of the Tuckerbung Club in Ledyard. Chip also enjoyed golfing, NASCAR and riding motorcycles. Above all else, he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
A graveside funeral service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Norwich on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10 am. There are no calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held following the graveside service at the Norwich Fish & Game Club at 44 Browning Road in Norwich, CT. A shuttle bus will be running from 12 to 4 pm in the commuter lot (West Town Street Parking) down the hill across from the two gas stations. Please try to park here and we will have you brought up to the club.
