She was born in Mt. Vernon, NY on August 20, 1955 to the late Richard and Helene (Olenkiewicz) Adamec Sr. She was married to Michael Anthony Ryan who predeceased her. Helene earned her associate's degree from Mohegan Community College for child development. She worked at Connecticut college as a custodian for over 20 years until her retirement. When not working Helene enjoyed going for car rides, spending quality time with friends and family, helping others and shopping.
She is survived by her sisters; Kathleen Adamec of Norwich Connecticut, Diane Adamec of Norwich Connecticut, and brother Richard William Adamec Jr. of Hartford Connecticut and a special niece Brianna Fontaine who was her caretaker and shared a home. She is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews and 20 great nieces and nephews and a countless amount of cousins as well as her uncle Peter Olenkiewicz and wife Doreen of Texas, aunt Cebe McConkey (Olenkiewicz) and husband Jim of New York, a special aunt Estelle Gunerman of New York, and Barbara (Adamec) Gorga and husband Peter of Indiana.
Helene's family would like to take the time to thank all of her doctors and nurses as well as her many friends for making her smile and keeping her spirits up. Dr. Kackielo, Dr. Stahl, PCT Laurie Scarpo, Dr. Einstein, Dr. Seltzer, and thank you to Dr. Slater who was her oncologist since she was first diagnosed in December of 2013. A very special thank you to Felicia who was Helene's favorite at Dr. Slater's office. Also from Dr. Slater's the family would like to thank Dr. Nick, APRN Nicole McKenzie, APRN Allison Weeks, APRN Katelyn Spence as well as Kim, Melissa, Alyssa, Bunny, Katelyn, Sarah, Sheena and all of the other hard working people you all played a major role in Helene's happiness. Helene's special friends the family would like to thank are Famatta Shaughnessy, Diane and Gary Hover, Jim Guerin who was Helene's boss at Connecticut College and then she called him her employee as well as the many other friends she had at Connecticut College. She loved her pets Pincher, Cocoa and Pretty Baby. Helene was always a character and loved life, and lived it to the fullest she was always in high spirits and ready to have a laugh or tell a joke.
Besides her husband, Helene was also predeceased by her twin sister Marie Helene Adamec and sister Cheryl Adamec.
