She was born in Norwich on Jan. 25, 1922 to the late Walter and Mary (Jaczynski) Michalowski and wed her beloved husband Alfred Raab on Feb. 23, 1946. He predeceased her in 2006.
Helen was a woman active in government holding positions as the Assistant Town Clerk for Montville, Executive Assistant to the New London County High Sheriff and finally as the Honorable Judge of Probate for the Town of Montville until her retirement.
Helen was always known to wear a smile and be good-hearted and loving to everyone she met. She could be the “life of the party” with her sense of humor and with her husband enjoyed entertaining family and guests. She had many friends of all ages with whom she interacted. She enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, watching sports and, occasionally, undertaking a bet. She enjoyed travelling especially to visit Al’s family in Texas. She was an excellent baker and all enjoyed her cakes, pies, cookies and muffins. She kept in touch with friends and relatives throughout the country and was always the person to whom one would go for “family news”. Besides her relatives, she was “Aunt Helen” to many others. She loved her family and was devoted to her Lord throughout her life.
Surviving are her four nephews who were lovingly raised by Helen and Alfred and their families: Richard Przybysz and his wife Janet of Mystic and their two children; Todd Przybysz, and Kara Larkin and her husband Shawn and their children, Nicholas and Julie; Thomas Przybysz of E. Windsor; Kenneth Przybysz of Uncasville; and Edward Przybysz and his wife Patricia of Old Lyme and their four children, Jason, Melissa, Brandan, and Matthew Przybysz; her brother, Theodore Michalowski; and sisters Jessie Michalowski and Catherine Piechowski and six other nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Helen was also predeceased by her brother John Michalowski, and sisters Sophie Misarski and Genevieve Przybysz.
Visitation will be from 8 to 10am Thursday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30am at St. John Church, Maple Ave., Uncasville, CT. Interment will immediately follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Norwich, CT.
Donations in Helen’s memory may be made to Catholic Charities, Archdiocese of Norwich, 331 Main Street, Norwich, CT 06360.
