Harriet Estelle LaVarge

Harriet was born September 9, 1919 in Norwich, the daughter of the late Carlos A. and Florence T. (Thacher) Ricker.

She was united in marriage to the late Charles Bernard LaVarge April 19, 1939 in Kittery, Maine. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage together.

Harriet was a 1938 graduate of the WW Backus Hospital Nursing Program. Her nursing career spanned many decades, starting with the United Workers Visiting Nurses Program in Norwichtown; the CT State Hospital on Lippett North 6, and the Kettle Building; the Willimantic Visiting Nurses and the UCONN Campus Infirmary in Storrs, CT.

Harriet was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, who brought kindness, empathy and compassion to all who knew her. She will be sadly missed by her small circle of family and friends.

Harriet is survived by her son Charles Phillip LaVarge, son-in-law Prof. Barton E. Cramer; grandson Prof. Charles A. Cramer and his wife Prof. and author Kim Grant of Portsmouth, NH; granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Cash and husband David of Austin, TX.

In addition to her parents and husband, Harriet was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Ann Cramer; brother David T. Ricker and by her sister Joyce (Ricker) Divine-Lyons.

Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
