Gloria was born in Watertown, CT on Dec. 20, 1921 to the late William and Ruth (Goodrich) Cleveland. She graduated from UConn with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Child Development and Sociology.
On Sept. 6, 1947 she was wed to her beloved Reverend John E. Post who survives her.
They were together for 66 years.
Gloria was active in ministry with her husband serving United Methodist congregations throughout New England. She was very concerned for persons of need in the communities where she lived. She volunteered in the institutions where people struggled with mental health issues including Gardner, MA and Westfield, MA. Gloria participated in continuing education receiving training for this concern of others’ lives.
At one point, Gloria served the District United Methodist Women’s bodies traveling throughout New England to encourage stimulating programs. She was also interested in poetry and preparing a substantial family history for the Post and Cleveland families. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in Norwich and Church Women United.
Besides her husband, survivors include her sons John Post and his wife Elizabeth Tracy of S. Windsor, CT, William Post and his wife Judy of Coventry, RI; grandchildren Heather Lussier (Alan), Stephen Post (Jennifer Hyde), Megan McNamara (Brian); great grandchildren Michael and Mathew Lussier, and Bryce and Avyn McNamara; brothers Elton and Roger Cleveland; stepsister Nancy Fischer and many nieces, nephews, extended family and a multitude of friends. She was predeceased by one brother, Kenneth Cleveland.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 5th at 2pm at Covenant Village of Cromwell Chapel. There are no calling hours. Interment with a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 12th at 10:30am at Maplewood Cemetery, 182 Salem Tnpk., Norwich, CT.
