Betty was born on April 25, 1933 in Fitchville, CT to the late Gregory and Nadja (Ivanovsky) Baran.
After graduating from Norwich Free Academy, she worked for decades as a bank teller, where her bubbly personality made her a friendly face in the community. In 1959, she married her husband of over 60 years, U.S. Marine GySgt. Nicholas “Nick” Forader, who predeceased her in 2020.
Betty was a lifetime member of Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church in Norwich, where she sang in the choir and was a member of the church’s Sisterhood. She cherished and spoiled her four grandchildren, and was always on the hunt for the best “bah-gins.” She was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast, and was also a master at baking, a talent which she passed on to her only granddaughter.
Betty is survived by her two loving daughters, Susan George (Tim) of Columbia, MD, and Carol Alegi (John) of Trumbull, CT; her four grandchildren, Tom George, Katie George, Matt Alegi, and Chris Alegi; as well as several close nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her three older sisters, Mary Kozersky, Ann Segal, and Sophie “Sue” Mercik.
