Dorothy Gravel

Dorothy J. Gravel of Norwich, CT passed away on Monday, March 20, 2023 at Elmbrook Village in Bozrah, CT surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old. Dorothy was born April 6, 1934 in Norwich, CT to Gertrude and Joseph Wisnieski and resided in Norwich for her entire life. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert Gravel and a sister to Joan Driscoll of Bozrah, CT. She was a favorite “Auntie” to many nieces and nephews through her husband Robert’s family and through her sister Joan’s family.

Dottie was born, raised, and educated in Norwich and was a graduate of the Norwich Free Academy. Following graduation, she began her lifelong career in banking and rose to the position as Assistant VP of Chelsea Groton Bank. Following retirement, she enjoyed time volunteering at the Wm. Backus Hospital for many years, and was a “snowbird” to her other home in FL for nearly 10 years. In her free time, her hobbies included taking several international excursions to her ethnic roots in Poland, numerous cruises, spending time working on countless crossword puzzles and tending to her incredibly productive and delicious blueberry bushes in the midst of summer.

The family is grateful for the loving support from the staff of Hartford Health Care at Home (Hospice) and the staff at Elmbrook Village for their exceptional care and concern during this time.

A calling hours / visitation for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT 06360. A calling hours / visitation will occur Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT 06360. A mass of christian burial will occur Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Cathedral, 213 Broadway, Norwich, CT 06360. A burial will occur Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:15 AM at St. Joseph Cemetery, 815 Boswell Ave., Norwich, CT 06360.
