Doris Marie Calkins

Doris Marie Calkins, 82, of Norwich, passed away January 19, 2016 after a long, courageous battle with cancer at Backus Hospital surrounded by her loved ones. She married the love of her life, Harold Thomas Calkins on July 29, 1952. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In addition to raising her own children, she provided childcare for many over the years. Along with her continued devotion to her family, she also enjoyed being a member of her church and an active participant, especially time spent teaching Sunday School, helping others gain a better understanding of the Holy Scriptures and the importance of a steady faith. She loved unconditionally, with a compassionate heart. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Harold Thomas Calkins, her sons, Harry Calkins Jr. and wife, Kathy of Stonington, Robert Calkins and wife, Lucy of Norwich, Bruce Calkins and Daniel Calkins of Norwich and daughter Cynthia Aguiar and husband Tom, of Danielson, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Friday January 22, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Norwich 239 West Main St. Norwich.
