Donald Hector Perry, age 63, of Preston, Connecticut passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 peacefully at home with his caring wife by his side, after an 8 month battle with lung cancer. Don was born July 18, 1958 to Wilfred Perry and Rose Perry (Spraski) in Norwich, CT. He recently married Denise Carol Beale on January 28, 2022.
Don worked for many over the years including Troy Laundry, MacNeil Builders, Electric Boat Groton, Norm's Auto Body, Capehart and Robertson Paper Box with his last job of 26 years being with Service Station Equipment, Inc. Over the years he also plowed snow for many doctors, lawyers and business owners in Norwich, and he owned Perry's Portable Welding Service.
Don spent a good part of his life from a toddler on, at the family cabin on the island at Gardner Lake. Later, he would enjoy maintaining the cabin and the surrounding property, followed by some good old R&R. He loved boating on the lake and having friends and family out to visit. He loved to cook and was very good at it too. He always enjoyed music playing where ever he was. And, his sense of humor was surprising.
He leaves behind his loving wife and lady friend, Denise C. Beale, his son, Christian D. Perry and his wife Andrea, his daughter, Rachael A. Mocek and her husband, William, and two granddaughters, Brantley Rose Perry and Madeline Grace Perry. He also leaves behind his step children, Jacquelyn D. Trapasso and her husband, Philip along with their son, Philip Nico, Samantha Rae Sharp Finch and her husband Matthew, and Jacob B. and Johnathan J. Sharp with whom he shared a home.
He also leaves behind his older sisters, Elizabeth Rose Mercier and her husband Henry J., Sr. and Barbara Sanford of California and his estranged older brother, Kenneth Perry, and a very close niece, Monica Rose MacNeil and her husband, John R. and his nephew, Henry R. Mercier, Jr. and his wife Ellen.
He is predeceased by his parents, Wilfred Joseph Perry and Rose Monica Stasia Spraski, and his oldest brother, Robert Perry.
Don was a simple man. He loved animals, and would go out of his way to feed the stray, but his last love was our German Shepherd dog, Sheila Madison, who predeceased him.
Don will be dearly missed by his friends and family. Not goodbye, see you later.
Arrangements are being handled by Church & Allen of Norwich. Don did not want any calling hours nor services. However, there will be a celebration of life later this year, which will be posted here.
In Don's memory, please consider donating to Hospice of Norwich at www.hartfordhealthcareathome.org and/or the German Shepherd Rescue of New England at www.gsrne.org.
