Chrissoula P. Sawyer

Chrissoula (Chris) Phillips Sawyer, 88, wife of Dr. James D. Sawyer, died on Monday, June 24th. She was a Norwich native. Mrs. Sawyer loved sunshine and fresh air when she had a golf club in her hand. She was an excellent cook and baker. When playing bridge, her eyes twinkled as she placed a bid. But the true light of her life was her family.

Mrs. Sawyer leaves seven daughters, Elizabeth Bateson, Marjorie Sawyer, Alexis Kasden, Kathleen Hetzel, Ann Mitchell, Susannah Griffin, and Joan Barnes; and 5 sons, Robert Sawyer, James Sawyer, Theodore Tsakonas, William Sawyer, and Michael Sawyer. She was predeceased by her son, George Tsakonas, and her daughter, Margaret Sawyer. One of six children; she is survived by a sister, Helen Homski, having been predeceased by another sister, Kanella Phillips, and three brothers, Dr. Nicholas Phillips, Dr. Michael Phillips, and George Phillips.

In addition, Mrs. Sawyer is survived by 23 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and 20 nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Thursday, June 27th, at 11:00 am, at the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, 247 Washington Street, Norwich. A calling hour will precede the service at 10:00 am at the Church. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery Norwich.
