Born in Warsaw, Poland in 1920, she was a Holocaust survivor who escaped the Warsaw Ghetto and eluded the Nazis in occupied Poland and Germany.
Barbara met her husband, Elmer Pressman, who was a GI in post war Germany. They married in Europe and returned to the United States in 1946. Her story as a survivor has been recorded by Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Project and can be found at the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.
She lived in Bridgeport, Connecticut and for many years in Mansfield Center, Connecticut.
Barbara Pressman is survived by her loving daughter, Linda Agranovitch, and her sons, Roger and Robert, along with 5 grandchildren, Matt Pressman, Mike Pressman, Carolyn Pressman, Jennifer Montanoro, Heidi Thony, and 4 great-grandchildren, Hazel, Lilah, Lily, Maya. She will be deeply missed by her entire family.
Funeral Services are Wednesday, Sept. 21st at 11am at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT with burial immediately following at Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery #3, Middle Rd., Preston, CT. Shiva will be observed on Weds & Thurs (Sept 21 & 22) at her daughter, Linda Agranovitch’s home at 9 Glenwood Park South, New London, CT beginning at 7pm with services at 8pm.
