Andrew Daniel Parrish, Jr., "Skip", age 64, passed away May 19, 2010 after a courageous battle with various illnesses that were related to his service to his country. He was born December 31, 1945 in Norwich, CT to Norma (Randall) Parrish and the late Andrew Daniel Parrish, Sr. He was an Eastern Pequot Tribal Elder.
Skip, an Air Force Veteran, served in Viet Nam as an aviation jet mechanic and was Honorably discharged. Skip became a heavy equipment operator with Local 478 Operating Engineers and an independent owner-operated trucker. At an early age, Skip showed an intense interest in mechanics and their operations. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan, collecting memorabilia of NASCAR and especially that of Dale Earnhardt. He was a former member of the Corvette Club. He, too, enjoyed all genres of music.
Besides his loving mother, he is survived by sons Andrew D. Parrish,III and his wife Mary of Gales Ferry, CT and Emery W. Parrish of Atlanta, GA; a grandson, Emery W. Parrish, Jr. also of Atlanta, GA; an aunt, Mabel Brown of Joppa, MD; two uncles Dr. Lewis E. Randall and his wife Helen of Vernon, CT and Vernon M. Randall and his wife Jackie of Norwich, CT. He also leaves cousins: Christine Brown of Joppa, AMD; Lewis Randall, Jr. of Mt. Washington, MA; Keith Randall of Vernon, CT; Stephen Randall, Fayetteville, NC; John Armstrong, Valerie Armstrong, and Kimberly Armstrong of Stamford, CT. Skip will be missed by his special friends, Lisa and Jamie Gagliardo, and numerous other family and friends.
Calling Hours will be held at Church and Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem Street, on Thursday, May 27th from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:30 PM. Burial and military service will immediately follow at Maplewood Cemetery.
