I will always remember auntie Althea and her infectious laughter!!  She was very intelligent and  very positive.  I remember how she would take notes during our conversations.  Last Christmas she was so happy and enjoyed a true Trini Christmas .  She was extremely happy and told me that it was years since she had real coconut sweetbread like in Trinidad.  I will always remember my last uplifting conversation with her.

We, the Grace Reformed Church of Flatbush, extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Althea Lashley. Having done the will of her Father and her Saviour, she answered His call and returned home to Him. She served faithfully and well at Grace in many ministries including as an Elder on the Consistory, the leadership body of this part of God's body. She brought her spiritual gifts to bear on everything she did. Her curiosity propelled her to try new things and to ask probing questions which helped her to serve in as she was called. 

We, the members of Grace Reformed Church, bid farewell to her here on earth and into the tender loving care of her Father in Heaven. We will meet again in the New Jerusalem.

Long time family friend of 50 years+ of John and Ellie Shurland. You offered your home, heart, love, advice and friendship to all of us including Dexter and I when we lived and visited on weekends, respectively. Thank YOU!
A life well lived and with longevity. A believer  in our Lord. Jesus Christ. A dedicated supporter of all things church related. 
God has called you to a higher place of praise.
The diligence by which you tackled a task and your determination to finish the course and be a constant supporter will remain with me.

Althea Lashley was a beautiful lady. She was kind and generous, always had a smile to share.  Ohhh, that infectious laughter was always a pleasure to hear. She never forgot to get my currant rolls  from Allan’s Bakery whenever I’m in town.  She always had something to give. 
I  am glad to have lived in her time and I will surely miss her.

A Fallen Limb

A limb has fallen from the family tree. / I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me. / Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. / The good life I lived while I was strong. / Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you. / Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through. / My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest. / Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small. / Go on with your life, don't worry about falls / I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin. / Until the day comes we're together again.

Mrs Althea  Lashley  We are indeed grateful  for the times  and opportunity we had to  spend time in macoya  Garden and Breagon Park Arima .Trinidad .You have  been a blessing to my sons Philip and Ryan !  Althea was  a no nonsense  person , had a tenacity  to do what’s  right and fearlessed of any situations.
Paul the apostle says in Romans 1:16 says for I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus  Christ 
for it is the power of God unto salvation .for those who believed That is who  she was not ashamed  to tell others about the goodness of Jesus.
Rest in peace “It will not be long  now it is almost midnight !

This picture taken at one of the many Women’s Day Celebrations at Grace Reformed Church, Brooklyn. Mrs. Lashley loved taking pictures, of and with people. I recall visiting her at home in October of 2023 and as we left, she struck a pose, and said take my picture (below).
I am grateful for my relationship with Mrs. Lashley, and that before she left Brooklyn, in January for Connecticut, I had the privilege of sending her off with prayer and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Also, as she transitioned from this life, I was able to pray with her and give her over to the keeping of her faithful Savior, to whom she belonged.
To the family, left to mourn, may you find comfort in the memory of your dear loved one, who trusted God for all things. May she rest in peace and rise in glory!

I remember Ms Lashley, and how determined she was to attend her nurse's zoom meetings.She called me and scolded me about how I didn't include her in my email about the meeting.  I made sure she knew when was the next meeting.  Ms Lashley religiously signed in going forward.  I loved 😍 her spirit  ,determination,and transparency. I will surely miss her. Thecla Williams

For Althea, A Woman with an All-Embracing Soul:

She was a Tunapuna girl who conquered from Britain to Brooklyn. 
She was a trained Nurse who treated patients like family. 
She was herself a family member who engaged with her relatives—sisters, brothers, niece, nephews, cousins, in-laws, step-children—as if their lives depended on her. 

She was a woman giant of such Divinely-guided spirit and committed Church devotion that she filled the world around everybody with love and generosity…making each one of us special, and teaching us that what Almighty God has given to us, we must in turn share with each other. 
May her soul rest peacefully in the treasured place that she deserves, and may we look forward to one day hearing once again: her caring voice, her engaging laugh, and her gentle wisdom as only God’s anointed can dispense.

The experience of losing a loved one impels us toward a deeper understanding of life. Everyone fears and is saddened by death. That is natural. But by struggling to overcome the pain and sadness that accompanies death, we become sharply aware of the dignity and preciousness of life and develop the compassion to share the suffering of others as our own. I will miss my dear neighbor -- her wit as well her determination. I will miss walking down the street and running into her and her laughter when I would say "what are you doing out here on these streets!?" She was always so kind to my family. My condolences to her family. May she rest in peace.
