Ruth Marie Thomas, 78, of San Tan Valley, Arizona died November 19, 2015.
Ruth was born September 27, 1937 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania where she lived with her parents, Mary Catherine (Hudak) and Paul Michael Payerchin and her brother Paul Michael Payerchin (Uniontown, PA). In 1959, she married Rodney Blaine Weaver and resided in Johnstown until moving to California in 1961. They had three children: Mary, Dorothy and Holly. They remained in California until her husband’s death in 1972. Ruth returned to Johnstown and married Russell Harry Thomas in 1978. In 1987, they moved to Reseda, California and resided there until 2014 when Ruth moved to San Tan Valley, Arizona to live with her daughter Dorothy and son-in-law Greg Simons.
While in California, Ruth was a homemaker. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, watching sports: football (the Pittsburgh Steelers) and baseball (the California Angels), playing with her dogs, and especially raising her children and being with her grandchildren and great-grand daughter. She was active in the San Fernando Valley Girls Scout Council in the 1970’s at Shirley Elementary School.
Ruth is survived by her three children: Mary Moore, Dorothy Simons and Holly Tant, their husbands Tom, Greg and Bill. Mary and Tom’s daughter Michelle and her great grand-daughter Mackenzie; Dorothy’s children Matthew, Christopher and Alexander; Holly and Bill’s children Kathryn and Michael; and her brother Paul Michael Payerchin. She was preceded in death by her late husband(s) Rodney Weaver and Russell Thomas.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and/or the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in her name.
Graveside service for family only will be held November 27, 2015 at the Oakwood Memorial Park, Chatsworth, CA.
