Norma was born in Pocatello, Idaho, daughter of Italian immigrants, Jim & Stella Meccico, and sister to Irma Clark and brother Bill Meccico. She was married at 18 years old and had 4 children by age 22. She graduated from Idaho State University with a physical education degree and credentials to begin her teaching career. She taught for 39 years. Although she first taught at Franklin Middle school in Pocatello, her drive for warmer temperatures and financial opportunity eventually brought her to the Los Angeles Unified School District, at Grant HS, and then El Camino Real High. Along with her teaching career, she coached gymnastics in public schools and private clubs, produced dance programs and ran a summer day camp, a family business, for 10 years.
She had many skills and talents. As a child, she performed ballet, tap, acrobatics, baton, sang, and played piano and percussion. As an adult, you couldn’t keep her from the fitness clubs, her aerobic classes and weight programs which gave her the energy to keep up with the kids. Her artistic side was expressed in toll painting and dance choreography. Norma married Rolfe Rahl for a fun loving 29 years of marriage. Together, they loved and were loved dearly and completely.
