Monsignor John Naughton has always been very dear to the Sisters of St. Louis in California. His presence among us will be greatly missed. May he rest in peace.

I forget, he loved the game of golf. I played many a golf game with him and 
Msgr. O'Connor.  I'm sure they have it teed up together now on HIS golf course.

Monsignor Naughton followed Monsignor O'Connor when he retired from St. Mel. Those were not easy shoes to fill - but Monsignor Naughton filled them well, strengthening the St. Mel ministry and congration.  I was singing in the Adult Choir at that time and was fortunate to know Monsignor. He would always lend his voice during rehearsals. He will surely be missed but he's singing in the most Glorious Choir of all now.

Monsignor Naughton was a chaplain at Norton Air Force Base when I was growing up. He was a wonderful person and was instrumental in getting me my first professional church singing job in Los Angeles. He will be missed!

Monsignor Naughton was a great man. He was determined, confident, clear headed and had a good sense of humor. He came from Mayo as some of my family did [though he often said he never wanted to see the place again]. Most importantly, he was awarded the highest non combat decoration our military gives for his service. I know because my husband received it for his work in WWII. Our love of many of the same things was the basis of our friendship. He is the only person I ever knew to check himself out of a nursing home when he realized it wasn't for him. John Naughton was a great friend to many people, all kinds of people. I am sorry he died before teaching me the Irish card game he played with his fellow priests every week. He is gone but will not be easily forgotten, nor should he be. RIP, John,  and ask the Lord to help the good old USA! Thank you for all you have done for us!
