Sylvia Barton Mills of 515 Roger Sayers Drive, Tuscaloosa, AL died peacefully at home surrounded by family. She was born in Fayette, AL on November 9, 1940. She was proceeded in death by her beloved parents, Vollie and Dot Barton, her only brother, Ronnie Barton, and her husband, Ben Mills. Sylvia is survived by daughters, Nikki Watkins (Bobby) of Gainesville, GA and Kristi Acker (Stan) of Northport, AL; her cherished grandchildren, Olivia Ann and Abby Francis Acker; her sister, Betty Stephens Hudson; her sister-in-law, Eddie Jo Barton; and her loved nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be son-in laws, Bobby Watkins and Stan Acker; future grandson-in-law, Luke Crain; and nephews, Ted Stephens, Thom Stephens and Ron Barton.
Honorary pallbearers will be her “family” at Capstone Village (Hallmark and Traditions Way); Hospice of West Alabama; Fayette County High School Class of 1959; Carrolls Creek Baptist Church; Dr. David Hinton; Dr. Debra Davis; Dr. Ariel Angiuano; Manderson Cancer Center (Tuscaloosa and Fayette campuses); the many dear friends that were faithful to check on her often, and the new friends made over the past couple of years while at Capstone Village.
Celebration of Life Services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at 2:00 PM from the chapel of
Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Rev. Alan Roggli officiating
To know our Mother, was to love her. She was a precious and faithful soul. Her greatest joy came from being a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. She was fondly (and appropriately) referred to as ‘Baby’ and ‘Aunt Baby’, but her greatest moment in life came when she was called ‘Gran’. She was quick to enjoy a good (or bad) card game, road trip, and antique shop. She loved cooking for her family and especially enjoyed the holidays and the time together with family. She loved her friends like family and we are all blessed that God loaned her to us for a time. We are thankful for every cherished moment (and meal) shared with her. Her family and friends grieve but heaven is rejoicing. Gran, you were loved so much.
