Lonnie Ray "Runt" Childers

Lonnie Ray "Runt" Childers, age 62, of Coker, died July 22, 2010, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Montgomery officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Nelson; his stepfather, Richard A. Nelson; his father, Charlie B. Childers; his stepmother, Mary Childers; and his brother, Lester Childers.

Survivors include his companion, Joanne Montgomery; his daughters, Kacy Barger (Derrick) and Regina Boothe; his sons, Steven Childers (Amy), Jason Childers (Ruth), Justin Childers (Tequila), and Robert Tipton; his sisters, Bonnie Bridgeman, Dorothy Goodwin, Mary Sue Kozlowski (Paul), and Becky Cantrell (Pete); his brothers, Charles E. "Sonny" Childers (Martha), Gaylon Childress (Brenda), and Ralph Childers (Becky); and his grandchildren, Jonathan Hollingsworth, Allen and Jeremy Bridgeman, Joshua Gooden, Danyon, Braxton, and Kennedy Childers, Alexis Sewell, River Boothe, and Madison Tipton.

He was a loving father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to many, many people because he never met a stranger. He was loved by all and will be missed by all who knew him.

Pallbearers will be Richard "Perm" Childers, Terry Bridgeman, James "Bubba" Bridgeman, Jeremy "Snake" Swiney, Jonathan Hollingsworth, Allen Bridgeman, Jeremy "BooBoo" Bridgeman, and Brandon "Bull" Lunceford.

Honorary pallbearers are Hospice of West Alabama, Cancer Care Center, Mitt Lary Family Practice, Malika Aryanpure MD, Malone Logging, Center for Cosmetic and Restorative Dentistry, Robinsons Bend Operating, Tube City IMS, D & J Car Wash, and IWS Trucking.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Cancer Care Center of Tuscaloosa.
