NORTHPORT | John Wiley McGee, age 83, of Northport, died Saturday, January 16, 2016, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2016, at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Henry Trull and Rev. George Shaddix officiating. Interment will follow in Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, A Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday, January 18, 2016, one hour prior to service.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley McGee and Marie Noland McGee Boyd; mother of his children, Hilda Wood McGee; and son, Richard Keith “Ricky” McGee.
Survivors include his daughters, Christi M. Patton and Lisa M. Patton (Rod). Son, Steve McGee (Debbie); daughter-in-law, Donna L. McGee; sisters, Eleanor Ellison (R.L.), JoAnn Burkhalter and Shelby Moss (Raiford); brother, Larry McGee (Vicky); grandchildren, Jami Patton, Drew Patton (Cortney), Josh McGee (Melissa), Amy McCarty (Patrick); Jarrod McGee, Jordan McGee (Janine), Anna Lisa Weigel (Andy) and Chris Sexton (Bethany); and seven great grandchildren.
He was a graduate of Gordo High school where he was active in sports. He treasured his lifelong friends from Pickens County. He enjoyed telling stories of growing up in the Kirk Community and his school years at Gordo. He loved duck hunting and was always eager to hear hunting stories from his grandsons. He was an avid Alabama football fan.
He was a successful businessman and enjoyed his relationship with his customers. Papa John loved his children and grandchildren and was proud of each of them. Papa John will be missed and we have comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord. He was a member of Dunn's Creek Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Josh McGee, Jarrod McGee, Chris Sexton, Drew Patton, Jordan McGee and Andy Weigel.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Posey, William Henry Vice, Mack Fair, Rusty Fendley, special caregiver Ella Davis, Friends of the Presbyterian Apts., Dr. Grubbs and staff, former employees of Rental Dust Control Service and employees of Northport Fire Station #2.
