The family will receive friends Monday, April 10, 2023, at 10:00am, followed by an 11:00am celebration of life service at Sunset Funeral Home in Northport, Alabama. She will be laid to rest after the service at Sunset Memorial Park.
Audrey Jean was born February 17, 1935, in rural Tuscaloosa County to parents Dempsey and Virgie Falls and was the youngest of four children. She married Luther Hughes, Jr. on April 12, 1952. They lived in Tuscaloosa, Coker, Dadeville, and Northport, Alabama during their 63 years of marriage. She was a nurse at Partlow State School and Hospital until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Luther Hughes, Jr., her parents, Dempsey E. and Virgie E. Falls, her brothers, James Preston Falls and Jack Dwayne Falls, and her sister, Mildred L. (Falls) Hollingsworth.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Joe Hughes (Sherry), daughter, Melissa Hughes Tyner (Larry), daughter, Karen Hughes Perry (Paul), grandchildren, John Justin Cody Tyner, Bret Joseph Hughes (Tracy), Chelsie Paige Wyman (Matt), Jenni Nicole Hughes, Kristin Alise Perry, Emily Suzanne Perry, and great-grandchildren, Kylie, Valerie, Tanner, Grace, and Luke.
Audrey Jean was a strong and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who is remembered for her sweet nature, great sense of humor, her gorgeous quilts, and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed reading, genealogy, jigsaw puzzles, watching birds, and especially spending time with family.
Pallbearers will be Cody Tyner, Bret Hughes, Jack Falls, Gabe Falls, Dewayne Jackson, and Joe Shirley.
Honorary pallbearers are staff of Hospice of West Alabama and Lewis and Faye Manderson Cancer Center, Dr. Debra Davis, Dr. James Evans, Dr. Sakina Kamal, Dr. K.M. Dinesh Chandra, and employees of Partlow State School and Hospital.
