COKER - James Douglas Smith, age 63, of Coker, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2017, at DCH Regional Medical Center. A Celebration of Life will be at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Coker with Bro. Tim Tindle officiating. Burial will follow in Bone Camp Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing the service. Visitation will be from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Freddie B. Smith.
He is survived by his daughter, Alisa S. Cook (David M.); his son, Jonathan D. Smith (Kelli Richardson); sisters, Cherry S. Holemon (Glenn) and Judy S. Evans (George); mother, Lougene Smith; grandchildren, Taylor D. Smith, Adam Smith and Chloe Smith; and mother of his children, Connie Smith Little.
He was a loving and dedicated father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a devoted employee at BF Goodrich for 35 years and retiree.
He loved playing church softball, playing his guitar and singing. He was a dedicated member at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He was a funny loving friend to his family and friends and a man always willing to extend a helping hand. He had many special friends including Melissa and Max Wallace, co-workers and loved his church family.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Gray, Nick Evans, Todd Gray, Tony Gray, Adam Jones and Jimmy Burns.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Burns Sunday School Class, Janet Norrell, Mt Olive Baptist Church, friends of BF Goodrich, Glenn Davis and Dr. Debra Davis
