NORTHPORT | James F. (Buddy) Lackey, age 79, of Northport, died August 2, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 3 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014, at Sunset Funeral Home with Bro. George Shaddix and Bro. Rusty Selman officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery in Ralph with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Lackey; three brothers; three sisters; and his in-laws, Floyd and Ruby Burns.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Carol Lackey; daughters, Connie Godwin (William) and Jill Sanford (Roger); and grandchildren, Forrest Atkinson, Logan Atkinson, Jacob Sanford, Kaci Godwin and Jana Godwin.
Buddy was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and proudly wore the label of a Tuscaloosa Black Bear. He was a skilled machinist and served in the Naval Reserve. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and watching Alabama football and the Atlanta Braves and enjoyed spending time with family the most. He was the best husband, daddy and Gramps and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Stanley Burns, William Godwin, Roger Sanford, Dennis Boswell, Forrest Atkinson and Logan Atkinson.
Honorary pallbearers are friends and church family of Northwood Hills Baptist Church, the Shiloh community, Hospice of West Alabama, Cades Cove Camping friends, all former co-workers of Gulf States Paper Corporation, Warrior Drilling, Bama Machine Shop and Central Machine Shop at Jim Walter Mines.
