Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his parents, James Olen Griffin, Sr. and Elizabeth
Josephine Ramey Griffin. He is survived by his wife, Linda Griffin; daughter, Jamie
Coombs (Brad); sons, Dan Hicks (Mary Ann), Rick Hicks (Ivis), and Steven Hicks;
grandchildren, Malaya Hicks, Kelly Hicks,Erin Hicks Cajayon (Quinn), Austin Lamb,
Marley Lamb, Dakota Lamb, Marshall Lamb, Liam Coombs and Jenny Woodworth;
great grandchildren, Jayden Bedoya, Chloe Hicks and Paisley Hicks.
Mr. Griffins father served in the US Air Force and he grew up traveling the world. He
eventually settled in Tuscaloosa and sold insurance for several years. For the last 15
years of his working career, he was an exterminator and loved to tell people he was
a “hired killer” just to see their expression. After retirement he enjoyed taking several
trips and cruises with his wife and friends. He was an avid Alabama Football fan and
possessed an uncanny ability to remember details of games throughout many decades
of Alabama football history. Mr. Griffin was known for his wonderful personality and his
ability to sense when someone needed help. He had a servants heart and was a most
kind and generous man. He participated in the puppet ministry at church for many years.
A private memorial service is being held by the family to honor is memory. Sunset Funeral Home,
a Dignity Memorial Provider, is in charge of arrangements.
The family has requested donations be made in his honor to The American Heart Association.
