James “Mack” Fair, 87, of Coker, Alabama passed away at Hospice of West Alabama on January 7th, 2024. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 at 1pm at Sunset Funeral Home with funeral services immediately following at 2pm with Pastor Chris McCool officiating.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Ethel Fair, his brother, Bob Fair, and sisters Annie Gay Norris and Dorothy Daniel. Mack is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nell Thomas Fair, son, Steve Fair (Glenda), daughters, Dana Collins (Mark) and Cathy Fleenor (Mike); and grandchildren, Adam Fair (Leigh), Clint Hamner (Carla), Clay Hamner (Jennifer), Sara Reynolds (Morgan), Lara Acker (Ryan), Caroline Tilley (Trent), Mary Cleveland (Caleb), and Abbey Bowman (Aaron). As well as multiple great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Mack was born in Gordo, Alabama on December 19th, 1936. He attended Gordo High School, joined the Army, and was honorably discharged in 1957. Mack enjoyed a variety of careers and had several successful business ventures. He retired from Hunt Refining Company in 1990 and founded Fair Contracting Company at that time. He ended his working career at Lowe’s where he enjoyed helping others. He was an active member of the Northport Civitan Club. Mack was a friend to everyone he knew.
Pallbearers will be Adam Fair, Clint Hamner, Clay Hamner, Keith McKnight, Ben McKnight, Dennis Gurganus, Trae Perdue, and Michael Fair.
Honorary Pallbearers include Margaret Perdue, Peggy McKnight, Wallace Hanks, Olis Mitchell, Robert McDaniel, Karen Moore, Tony Bresnahan, and former co-workers of Hunt Refining Company, Northport Lowe’s, Doris Fleming and Bland Strickland.
A special thanks to the employees of Hospice of West Alabama, Dr. Keith Debell’s office, and the VA home based primary care staff.
