NORTHPORT | Freddy Eldridge Yerby, age 86, of Northport, died October 25, 2014, at Heritage Healthcare. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Clary and Dr. James Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset/Masonic Lodge with Sunset Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services.He was preceded in death by his father, Rady Yerby; his mother, Mary Frances Harrison Yerby; his brothers, Alvin, Chester, and Buster Yerby; and his sister, Florence Perkins.He is survived by his wife, Eva Hindman Yerby, of Northport; his daughter, Denise Foster (Charles); his son, Mike Yerby (Sandra); his sister, Louise Cunningham; his brother, James Yerby, of Michigan; his grandchildren, Chris Yerby (Margaret), Travis Yerby, Kyle Foster (C.J.), Noel Foster; and five great-grandchildren.Freddy was born on November 10, 1927, in Lamar County. Upon return from serving in the U.S. Army, he worked in many service jobs and retired from the VA Hospital. He was married to Eva in 1949, and they had two children, Mike and Denise. His retirement years were spent travelling the country with Eva and the Bama Ramblers, serving his church, and enjoying time with his family. He was a master mason and served as a deacon of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Chris Yerby, Travis Yerby, Kyle Foster, Jason Jones, Jamie Jones, David Hindman, and Zach Hindman.Honorary pallbearers are his dear loyal friends and the caring medical staff.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Chapel Hill Baptist Church Building Fund
