Eva Patton

Eva Blanche Mills Patton, age 89, of Coker, Al passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at Hospice of West Alabama. Celebration of Life Funeral Services will be held Friday, December 9, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home at 11:00. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until service time. Rev. Billy Gray will officiate. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park.

Eva is survived by her daughters, Kay Vaughn and Janice Ballard (Mike) all of Coker; grandsons, Matt Sanders (Sherri), Brad Sanders (Amanda), Stephen Ballard (Landon), Andrew Ballard (Lauren); great grandchildren, Evan Sanders, Izzy Sanders, Les Sanders, Jack Sanders, Edie Sanders, Andi Ballard, Pepper Ballard, Leighton Ballard and Rumer Ballard.

Mrs. Patton is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Leslie Jerome Patton; son in law, Dean Vaughn; parents, Lester and Brazzie Mills; eight brothers and three sisters. Woolsey, Morris, Felix, Raymond, Robert, Adrian, John, Eugene (Red) Mills and Mildred Shute, Lois Ford and Carolyn Mills.

Eva was born June 30, 1933 and grew up in the Bethany community. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1951. She was a very hard worker and helped her husband with a huge garden every year, along with running a dairy and beef cattle farm. She loved to travel and got to visit 46 states with her husband. She enjoyed camping, talking with friends, and was an expert seamstress, making most of her daughters clothes. She was a great cook, her family especially loved her dressing and looked forward to Thanksgiving every year. She loved her family and in later years she adored her great grandchildren. She always had chocolate kisses when they came to see her.

Eva was a faithful member of Five Points Baptist Church for 56 years. She was saved during revival at Bethany Baptist Church when she was 15 years old and baptized in Wards Mill creek. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and devoted wife for 56 years. She will be greatly missed.

Serving as pallbearers are her grandsons, Matt Sanders, Brad Sanders, Stephen Ballard, Andrew Ballard; great grandson, Evan Sanders and nephew Joe Mills. Honorary pallbearers are Cornelia Davis, Sharron Stone, members of Esther Hope Sunday School Class, Five Points Baptist Church, Debbie Dawson and friends and neighbors of Coker and Bethany communities.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Five Points Baptist Church Youth Department or to Gideon’s International
