A Celebration of Life will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 19 2018, at Sunset Funeral Home with The Rev Jack David House officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Provider, directing. Interment will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
He was retired from BF Goodrich after 30 years of service and from the Alabama Army National Guard, 31st Armored Briggade of Northport, Ala. He was a member of Coker Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder.
He was a Master Mason and member of J. Collier Foster Lodge F & A.M., #906 and member of The Sons of Confederate Veterans (Gen John Herbert Kelly Camp #1981 of Gordo, Ala.).
He is preceded in death by his mother and father Neal and Minnie Pate, mother-in-law and father-in-law Roy and Jessie Lee, brother-in-law Otis R Lee, sister-in-law Melba Spencer, brother-in-law Charles Spencer.
He is survived by his wife of 54 and half years, Margaret Pate; son, Christopher Pate (Amanda); grandson, Christopher Pate, Jr. (Jamie); great- granddaughter, Schuyler Pate; brother, Steve Pate; sister, Kathy Sanford (Jerry); sister-in-law, Virginia Cadenhead (Bill); sister-in-law, Berdie Ann Lee; and other relatives.
Pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge and will be a military funeral.
Honorary pallbearers include Herman and Ritha Channell, Jimmy and Mary Woods, Arnold and Eloise Hembrey, Jimmy and Ginger Harless, ABC Fire Equipment, retirees from BF Goodrich, Dr. Elizabeth Western, members of the Coker Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and friends of the Coker community.
Flowers will be accepted and memorials can be made to any of the following: the Lewis and Faye Manderson Center at DCH Regional Medical Center, Amedisys Home Health of Tuscaloosa and Coker Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
