British Columbia. He was 75 years old.
Dad was born March 3rd 1945 in Trail, British Columbia, youngest child to William and Gertie Williamson. After leaving high school, Dad enrolled in Medicine at the
University of British Columbia, and graduated with his M.D.
During a semester break when Dad came home to Trail, he met the love of his life,
LaNere at a dance in Northport Washington in 1965 after being set up by her sister who was dating his best friend, Glen. It was from here on that the Trail friends were forever interwoven with the Northport girls.
Mom and Dad married in 1967 and welcomed their first child, Russell a few years later. Shortly afterwards, Dad began his residency in Spokane Washington, where they welcomed their second child, Kelly.
When his residency concluded, they relocated to Victoria, then Prince George, where he would set up his first practice as a family Physician. Dad loved his work as a Physician, and the families he cared for, but eventually he felt the call to return to academia.
In 1977, Mom and Dad welcomed their last child, Jeffrey. Within months the family moved to the Blueridge neighbourhood of North Vancouver, where he would continue his studies for an additional 4 years to specialize in Radiology. It was shortly after this time Dad coalesced with the Brooke Radiology Group, which he was a part of until his retirement in 2013.
Dad was predeceased by Mom the Spring of 2002; they would’ve celebrated their
35th wedding anniversary in August of that year. It was a milestone they were most proud of, and heartache he never outlived. It was through his immense loss that Dad found his way to God and was an active member of the Capilano Christian Community until his passing. Dad participated in the church’s first mission trip to Bufukhula, Uganda, in 2005, which culminated in a rafting trip down the headwaters of the Nile River, an adventure he spoke of often.
Bill is survived by his children Russell (Jen), Kelly (Tim) and Jeff (Kristi), as well as grandchildren, Daniel (Fernanda), Jasper, Levi, Nathan, and Mikayla. He also leaves behind sister, Norma, and brother, Dennis, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, a traditional service will not be observed at this time, rather a celebration of life at a later date when restrictions ease and borders reopen.
We lost Dad, but only in body, not in spirit. And though this is one of the most painful and life-altering experiences we’ve, as a family, endured, we remain grateful and comforted knowing how much Dad affected the lives of others, and how he’s truly earned his rest and reunion in the great everlasting company of the lord.
